bikewalk OKC Advisory Group

Purpose

The Advisory Group provided overarching review and recommendations for the update of bikewalkokc. It included City elected and appointed officials, local partners and stakeholders, and City staff from a variety of departments.  The group's participation provided a variety of perspectives and ideas, and added transparency to the plan update process.

Step 1: Pedestrian Planning

With Step 1, the City staff guided the Advisory Group to focus specifically on pedestrian components of Chapters 3 and 4 of bikewalkokc. Chapter 3 outlines the prioritization processes for each of the Pedestrian Priority Areas while Chapter 4 displays the outcomes of these prioritization processes resulting in comprehensive lists of projects by Pedestrian Priority Area. These areas include 10 specific Pedestrian Priority Areas or PPA's, the Downtown Area, Park Area, School Areas, and Transit Areas.

City staff solicited feedback and recommendations on the PPA boundaries, recommendations for new pedestrian projects within the PPA boundaries, and recommendations on the consideration for the creation of new PPA boundaries.

Step 2: Bicycle and Trail Planning

With Step 2, City staff guided the Advisory Group to focus on the review of bicycle and trail components of Chapters 2 and 4 of the plan.  Chapter 2 outlines the bicycle and trail facility types and selection process; the analysis for project selection; and the current and proposed bicycle and trail networks.

City staff sought new recommendations for bicycle and trail facilities. At this time, the City does not plan to do an overhaul of the existing and currently proposed networks; however, comments are welcomed and will be reviewed for consideration.

Step 3: Project Implementation Process and Action Plan

During Step 3, City staff will guide the Advisory Group on discussions related to the plan implementation.  Topics will include Funding Opportunities, Ongoing System Maintenance, Staffing Resourcing Needs, Performance Measures, and Action Plans.

As part of step three, consideration will be given to including a Special Corridors and Safe Crossings Component to the plan.
