The Office enhances Oklahoma City's sustainability efforts by providing technical recommendations, sustainability planning and outreach services for the organization and our community.
The City's first sustainability plan, adaptokc, was unanimously adopted as an amendment to the comprehensive plan, planokc at the June 11, 2020, Planning Commission(PDF, 214KB) meeting and was unanimously received by City Council(PDF, 1MB) on July 7, 2020.
The purpose of the office is to integrate sustainability principles into decision making for improved economic, environmental and social health.

EECBG Awards
The Office of Sustainability was originally funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Program via the US Department of Energy (US DOE) through an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) in 2009.
US DOE highlighted one project in 2012 - the expansion of the City's Compressed Natural Gas fueling station. Read more about(PDF, 39KB) the City's 2009 EECBG award.
In 2024, the City received a second EECBG grant funded via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The City is using this funding for these two activities:
- Resilient Home Prototype Plans
- Alternative Fuel Fleet and Facilities Study and Strategic Plan
