The deadlines/sunset dates of tax credits and incentives made available through the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) were significantly accelerated by the passage of the 2025 “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA).

Tax Credits expired in 2026

  • Alternative Fuel Refueling Property (Section 30C): Tax credit for purchasing/installing EV chargers, including home chargers, expired  for units placed in service after June 30, 2026.
  • New Energy Efficient Home Credit (Section 45L): expired  for homes purchased after June 30, 2026.
  • Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D): Residential solar, battery storage, and geothermal projects do not qualify in 2026.
  • Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C): Credits for insulation, HVAC, and windows expired after December 31, 2025.
  • Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction (Section 179D): expired for projects beginning construction after June 30, 2026.
  • Clean Electricity Investment/Production Credits (45Y/48E): Wind and solar facilities must begin construction by July 4, 2026, and be placed in service by December 31, 2027, to remain eligible.
