Media Relations
The Office of Media Relations, also known as the Public Information Office, is responsible for providing police department related information to local, state and national media. Oklahoma Open Records requests, daily media inquiries on open investigations and interviews with department employees are all arranged by the Office of Media Relations.
This office is also responsible for the management of official department social media sites such as Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube and Nextdoor. Public engagement through social media is an important aspect of community policing and positive public perception.
The Office of Media Relations has a captain, who is the commander over the unit and the Public Information Officer for the police department. Two Assistant Public Information Officers assist in providing information to the media, issuing press releases and responding to on-scene incidents as needed.
The Office of Media Relations also consists of a Crime Stoppers manager, a digital media specialist, and two digital media producers. This unit oversees and manages the department’s social media platforms, coordinates and distributes valuable crime tips to the appropriate units, and produces digital content and videos to support community engagement and public information efforts.
The Office of Media Relations is committed to providing important and useful information to the public via local and social media. The daily and consistent practice of openness, transparency and cooperation with the media has resulted in a positive relationship, which in turn has generated confidence and trust from the public toward the entire Oklahoma City Police Department.
