The debt-free, 39,000-square-foot senior center will be located adjacent to Capitol Hill High School at 4021 S Walker Ave. and is expected to open next year.
“The placement of this Senior Health and Wellness Center in south Oklahoma City couldn’t be more perfect,” said Mayor Cornett. “Improving Oklahoma City’s health and wellness outcomes continues to be a priority of the City Council, and today we are one step closer to that goal.”
NorthCare will operate the center as part of an agreement with the City.
“This location creates a synergy between the Senior Center, Capitol Hill High School and Hosea Vineyard Park and trails next door,” said NorthCare CEO Randy Tate. “We look forward to opening our doors and serving the community in 2017.”
The MAPS 3 Senior Health and Wellness Center will provide wellness and social connections for seniors age 50 and up. The state-of-the-art facilities will include an indoor fitness swimming pool heated to 88 degrees, fully equipped fitness center, aerobics and fitness studio with cushioned floors, café, game room, art room, classroom space with computers, demonstration kitchen, event center and a large covered patio for outdoor activities.
The facility will also include a health clinic offering primary care and behavioral health services through NorthCare and Variety Care. The building includes several exam rooms and a pharmacy.
The $10.5 million facility will be the second MAPS 3 Senior Health and Wellness Center to open. The first is scheduled to be finished this fall at 11501 N Rockwell Ave.
