Patrol Divisions

Oklahoma City is divided into four patrol divisions, which serve the various geographic areas of the city, and Bricktown Division, which covers the entertainment district near downtown. These divisions fall under the Operations Bureau of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

The Operations Central and Operations Metro bureaus are commanded by two deputy chiefs and a division major heads each patrol division. Each of the main four patrol divisions includes over 150 uniformed officers, who directly serve the people of Oklahoma City each and every day by responding to a wide array of calls for service and vehicular accidents.

The Uniform Support Division is also headed by a Major and includes specialized units that support the patrol divisions.

Bike & River Patrol

The purpose of the Bricktown Bicycle/Beat Patrol Unit is to provide police protection in the area of Oklahoma City designated as Bricktown and the Downtown Business District. The Bricktown Bicycle Unit will strive to maintain positive community relationships throughout the Bricktown community. This type of patrol will give the citizens in the Bricktown area the constant approachable feeling of police to community contact. The Unit accomplishes this goal by riding the Police mountain bicycle whenever possible.

In 1990, the Oklahoma City Police Department established a full-time bicycle unit to be used in high crime areas identified by each uniform division. The unit was to be used to target specific crimes in designated areas. More importantly however, the unit was designed to promote a positive relationship with the community, as the officers would be more accessible than conventional patrol officers.

In 1998, the Bicycle Unit was moved from the command of the Operations Administration to the Uniform Support Division. The unit was assigned to patrol the Bricktown area on a full-time basis. In 2008, four additional positions were added to the Bricktown Bike Patrol Unit. These four positions specifically focus on high police visibility and quality of life issues within the Central Business District of Oklahoma City.

Parking Enforcement

The Oklahoma City Police Department utilizes Police Service Technicians (PSTs) for parking enforcement in Downtown and Bricktown areas of Oklahoma City. The Unit is highly visible in the Downtown area and relied upon to enforce parking regulations during business hours. In addition to parking enforcement, PSTs are called to assist officers on any call where traffic control is needed. The PSTs are also used for traffic control during special events, Thunder games and dignitary escorts.

Oklahoma City Ambassadors

The Oklahoma City Ambassadors is a program within the Department’s Special Protection Events & Emergency Response (SPEER) Unit whose primary goal is being goodwill ambassadors for the City of Oklahoma City at special events, in downtown Oklahoma City, Bricktown, and Riverfront. The Oklahoma City Ambassadors were created in 2003 with start-up funding from a federal grant.

Oklahoma City Ambassadors will provide information and assistance to citizens, assist with traffic control, and serve as extra “eyes and ears” for the Police Department. Oklahoma City Ambassador Representatives will be easily identifiable but distinguishable from Oklahoma City Police Officers. Oklahoma City Ambassadors do not possess any police powers.
