A City Charter amendment in 1927 established the Council-Manager form of government. In this form of City government, an elected Mayor and City Council set policy and conduct City business. The Mayor and Council appoint a professional City Manager to carry out the day-to-day operations of City government.
Terms of service are for four years. Pay is $12,000 annually. The Mayor is elected every four years. The next Mayoral election is set for 2014. Pay is $24,000 annually.
Mick Cornett became Oklahoma City's 35th mayor on March 2, 2004. He is just the fourth mayor in the City’s history to be elected to a third term.

A native of Long Island, Salyer has made her home in Oklahoma City for the last 25 years. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College, having also completed two years of study abroad at the University of London, the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Franklin College, in Lugano, Switzerland.

Mark is a lifelong resident of Oklahoma City and is a graduate of Oklahoma City University. He and his wife of 32 years, Debbie, raised their two sons in Ward 8. A business attorney who practices in oil & gas and intellectual property law.
