COVID-19 (new coronavirus): There is a COVID-19 emergency proclamation in Oklahoma City. Visit for updates and details.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of OKC Animal Welfare, helping us with everything from animal care to educational outreach and administration.

To become a volunteer, you first attend one of our orientations at the OKC Animal Shelter. You don't need to RSVP, but it's a good idea to double check the calendar before you come to orientation to make sure there haven't been any schedule changes. You can see the schedule of orientations on the calendar link located on the top right hand corner of this page.

At orientation, you'll fill out an application, sign a background check permission form and complete any training required for your duties.

We need volunteers of all ages, but you must be at least 13 years old to handle animals at the Shelter. Volunteers between 13 and 18 years old must have an accompanying adult over the age of 21 at all times. Anyone under age 18 can consider joining our Kids for OKC Animals program.
