OKC is committed to serving all people. City employees, including police officers and firefighters, focus on their core responsibilities to provide essential services. City employees do not ask about immigration status when providing services. This ensures everyone can:

Permits

Below is a list of popular permits. Not all permits issued by the City of Oklahoma City are listed on this page. To find out if you need a permit and the requirements, contact the Development Center or the appropriate department.

Alarm Permit

Anyone with an automatic fire or security alarm system in a home or business within the Oklahoma City limits must have a permit.

Boat Stall Rental Permits

Got a boat? You may be eligible to rent a boat stall from the City of Oklahoma City at Lake Hefner or Lake Stanley Draper. Learn about permit and payment options, how to apply, and get answers to frequently-asked questions.

Boating & Kayaking

Fishing

Fishing is available year-round on the City's three lakes and eight Close to Home fishing waters.

Garage Sale Permit

Each household can have two garage sales a year with proper permits. A single permit is good for three consecutive days. The sale must be held between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the address listed on the permit.

Hunting

The City of Oklahoma City allows regulated hunting of goose and duck during the Fall Oklahoma Waterfowl Season as set by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Lake Property Access Permits

To provide information related to hosting special events on properties owned by the Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust, including at or near Lake Hefner, Lake Overholser and Lake Stanley Draper. This also includes information for commercial and film shoots and temporary access.

Mural Facts and Best Practices

What is a mural? Oklahoma City Municipal Code defines mural as a one-of-a-kind visual depiction, and/or work of art, or licensed reproduction of an original work of art. It may be created using various methods including, but not limited to paint, mosaic tiles, or graphic art techniques such as vinyl wraps that are applied, painted, implanted, or placed directly onto the exterior of any structure.

Noise Permit

A noise permit is required if you plan to use amplified sound for an event at your home or business (including events like backyard weddings, concerts or parties).

Office of Special Events

The Special Events Office provides event organizers with guidance through the permitting process and in planning safe and successful events.

Park Events Permits

Host an event at an Oklahoma City park with the Parks & Recreation Department.

Permits issued by the Fire Department

Burn, fireworks and other permits issued by the Oklahoma City Fire Department.

Sign Permits

Oklahoma City residents and businesses are required to purchase sign permits for temporary and permanent signs. The City of Oklahoma City allows temporary signs to be placed in many City rights-of-way with a permit as of March 15, 2024.
