OKC Utilities offers support to customers affected by the shutdown

Published on November 07, 2025

The Oklahoma City Utilities Department recognizes that the federal government shutdown has placed financial strain on many residents and is committed to assisting those directly affected.

Customers who are experiencing financial hardship and expect to have difficulty paying their Utilities bill as a direct result of the shutdown may contact Utilities Customer Service to discuss assistance options that will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Affected customers should email water@okc.gov before they miss a payment. In the email:

  • Write “shutdown” in the subject line.
  • Include your name and your Utilities account number or service address.
  • Explain how the shutdown directly affects your ability to pay.

Because staffing is limited, customers should email the Department to keep phone lines open for water and sewer emergencies and other service needs.

This temporary assistance is available only to Oklahoma City Utilities customers who receive water, sewer, trash or recycling services from the City of Oklahoma City.

“Our goal is to meet people where they are and find reasonable solutions,” Utilities Director Chris Browning said. “We can’t eliminate every challenge, but we can listen, act with compassion and help customers navigate a tough situation while maintaining the reliability of our services.”
