OKC Parks plans to drain, clean Bricktown Canal beginning Jan. 20

Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation employees will clean out the Bricktown Canal beginning Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Draining, cleaning and refilling the canal will take about three and a half weeks, depending on weather.

Parks teams will use small tractors, fire hoses and other equipment to remove silt and debris. H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery employees will be available to transport any live fish to the Oklahoma River. 

The canal was last cleaned in January 2020.

About the Bricktown Canal
Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation maintains the Bricktown Canal, which is more than 1 mile long and holds 3 million gallons of water. The average depth is 4½ feet. The canal was one of the original MAPS projects. It was built in 1999 at a cost of $23 million and has become a destination for both locals and visitors from around the world.
