Railroad quiet zone takes another step forward
OKC is another step closer to getting a railroad quiet zone in the urban core after the Council voted Tuesday to approve several street closures. Locomotive engineers are not required to sound their horns when passing through intersections in quiet zones, but improving and eliminating some crossing locations is key to creating the quiet zone. The Council voted Tuesday to close three streets NW 14, NW 12, NW 11, W Park Place and SW 23 where they cross the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad track running through OKC. The street closure items were introduced at the Sept. 29 council meeting and approved by the Planning Commission.
Council approves negotiations with potential MAPS 3 streetcar supplier
The Council voted Tuesday to authorize negotiations with Brookville Equipment Corporation to purchase streetcars for the MAPS 3 Modern Streetcar project. The Council voted in September to authorize negotiations with a different supplier, but that supplier didn't meet a contractually obligated deadline. The MAPS 3 Citizens Advisory Board and its modern streetcar subcommittee recommended the Council authorize negotiations with Brookville because of the other supplier's missed deadline.

Convention and Visitors Bureau delivers quarterly update
OKC Convention and Visitors Bureau President Mike Carrier delivered his quarterly update to the Council on Tuesday. Carrier reported revenue growth in the second quarter of the current fiscal year was flat, but revenues in the first quarter outpaced the same period last year.
