Oklahoma City Animal Welfare invites everyone to celebrate Thanksgiving early with shelter pets during Paws-giving Fest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the OKC Animal Shelter, 2811 SE 29th St.
Guests can feed shelter pets a special Thanksgiving meal of turkey, sweet potatoes, green beans and beef broth, provided by Be Kind Rescue Dogs, and approved by the shelter’s head veterinarian. The event is free and open to the public.
Adoption fees for all dogs and cats will be waived during Paws-giving Fest, allowing families to welcome a new companion home in time for the holidays. The celebration will feature pet-related vendors, a dog walk and local food trucks.
Paws-giving Fest Schedule:
- Low-cost vaccine clinic: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment needed, but people are welcome to schedule one.
- Walk with shelter dogs: 11:30 a.m.
- Vendors and food trucks: noon to 4 p.m.
- Adoptions: noon to 5 p.m.
“The holidays are about connection,” said Ronnie Schlabs, Superintendent of Oklahoma City Animal Welfare. “A good meal, a walk, or just a little attention means the world to these animals. It reminds all of us how simple kindness can make a difference.”
Attendees can also support shelter pets by donating enrichment items such as dog treats or pet-calming spray, which help reduce stress and provide comfort to animals awaiting adoption.
Adoption fees for dogs and cats will also be waived on Saturday, Nov. 29. For more information about adoptions, donations or upcoming events, visit okc.gov/animal-welfare.
