What would you say to Oklahoma City residents 100 years from now?

Residents and visitors are invited to share their thoughts with future generations by writing a message for a time capsule that will be placed near the Kicks 66 sculpture on Nov. 12 and opened in 2126.

The messages should be written on a free postcard available now through Nov. 5 at the front desks of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and the Oklahoma History Center. There is no cost to enter either museum’s foyer.

More than 1,000 postcards have already been collected from libraries and other sites throughout Oklahoma City.

The time capsule project corresponds with the 100th anniversary of the opening of Route 66, which took place on Nov. 11, 1926.

About “Kicks 66”

“Kicks 66” is a 35-foot-tall sculpture created by local artist Cameron Eagle to honor the 100th anniversary of Route 66. The sculpture is in the east parking lot of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 1700 NE 63rd St. Inspired by classic Route 66 roadside attractions and funded through MAPS 4, the sculpture, which is on Route 66, is illuminated from within with 1.2 miles of LED lights, making it visible both day and night.

People can visit “Kicks 66” from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. year-round.

Oklahoma City has 51.5 miles of Route 66 in the city limits. And Oklahoma has more than 400 miles of the famed highway, more lane miles than any other state. Learn about Route 66 in Oklahoma City at okc.gov/route66. Learn more about Cameron Eagle’s work at inkranchinc.com.
