Walker Avenue Enhancement Project to improve corridor

Published on March 19, 2026

The City of Oklahoma City has started work on North Walker Avenue between NW 23rd Street and NW 32nd Street to improve safety and strengthen connectivity between Uptown 23rd and the Paseo Arts District.

The $5 million project is funded through the Better Streets, Safer City Sales Tax Program.

Improvements include:

  • New sidewalks on both sides of the street.
  • ADA-compliant ramps and marked crosswalks at intersections.
  • Roadway resurfacing.
  • 22 new streetlights meeting OG&E standards.
  • New trees and landscaping.
  • Rain gardens for stormwater management.
  • Potential speed cushions for traffic calming.
  • Improved on-street parking in select commercial blocks.
  • Upgrade of the storm sewer inlets.

“Walker Avenue is an important link between neighborhoods and business districts, and this project will improve safety and accessibility for the community, and people walking, biking and driving through the area,” Michael Clark, project manager, said.

The project will coordinate with the adjacent NW 23rd Street Enhancement Project to minimize impact on the community and will pause work to accommodate events such as Paseo First Fridays and the Paseo Arts Festival. The project is expected to be complete in early 2027.
