UPDATE: 48-inch water main repaired on May Ave., road repair to begin
Published on July 14, 2025
The emergency water main repair near May Avenue and NW 71st Street was completed Sunday morning. Water pressure has been fully restored to normal levels for all affected customers.
Oklahoma City Utilities Department Line Maintenance crews are on site today cleaning up the area and expect to have equipment cleared out by late this evening.
Due to the size of the 48-inch water main and the number of water lines that branch from it, completing the repair required careful coordination over several days to minimize service disruptions. In order to isolate the damaged main, Utilities crews made temporary adjustments to other parts of the City’s water system to reroute supply and maintain service for as many customers as possible. This included ensuring continued water service to critical medical facilities.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience during the repair and thank drivers for navigating around the closures as we worked to restore the system,” said Assistant Utilities Director Josh Morgan.
The pipe rupture had no identifiable cause.
Beginning tomorrow, the City’s Public Works Department will assess road damage to determine the extent of repairs needed. Due to the scale and duration of the water main repair, road repairs were delayed. Public Works officials now anticipate restoring two-way traffic on May Avenue by Thursday, July 17, pending any unforeseen complications such as extensive damage or weather delays.
Drivers should allow for extra time in the area and follow posted detour signage.
