The City of Oklahoma City invites everyone who lives, works or travels within the city limits to attend one of three upcoming workshops and provide input on the Vision Zero Plan for transportation safety.
Input from residents will help staff implement strategies to make transportation safer and, eventually, eliminate deadly crashes on Oklahoma City streets.
Attendees will learn about the existing traffic safety deficiencies, talk to project planners and discuss recommendations for transportation safety improvements. The workshops will be open-house style, with interactive activities to collect ideas from residents on strategies to improve transportation safety throughout Oklahoma City.
Residents can learn more about the Vision Zero plan and share their input at the following events:
- Workshop #1: Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Canadian Valley Technology Center – Cowan Campus, 1701 S Czech Rd. The workshop will be held in the seminar room on the SW side of the building.
- Workshop #2: Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Northwest Library, 5600 NW 122nd St. The workshop will be held in meeting room AB.
- Workshop #3: Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Northwest Church of Christ, 4301 NW 23rd St. The workshop will be held in the Family Life Center building.
“Public engagement is an essential piece of the Vision Zero Plan,” Justin Henry, City of Oklahoma City transportation planner, said. “Hearing directly from residents will help us keep community needs at the forefront and ultimately move us closer to our goal of zero roadway deaths in Oklahoma City.”
Another part of the public engagement phase is an online survey and interactive map, which will help staff identify high-risk locations and factors contributing to crashes. The survey lets respondents pinpoint specific locations on a map that need safety improvements, and a written survey prompts questions about overall transportation safety.
The written survey is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. The surveys will close on Aug. 31.
After the public engagement phase is complete, the project team will analyze City roadways and recommend an action plan for adoption by City Council. The Vision Zero Plan is scheduled to be finalized in 2025.
