Overnight shelters expand capacity during freezing temperatures
Published on November 07, 2025
As winter approaches, emergency overnight shelters in Oklahoma City are increasing their capacity to house almost 400 more people and families.
“We want everyone who wants a warm bed to have one,” Jamie Caves, Strategy Implementation Manager for Key to Home Partnership, said. “We don't want anyone sleeping outside when temperatures dip below freezing."
When forecasted temperatures dip below 32 degrees, The Homeless Alliance, City Rescue Mission, City Care, Sisu Youth and Pivot provide overflow beds. These resources are in addition to regular capacity at overnight shelters.
Outreach workers are warning people who are unhoused about this weekend’s forecast.
