The Eastern Basin of the Oklahoma River between Eastern Avenue and the Paul Brum Dam at First Americans Boulevard was partially drained Sunday, June 14, so Oklahoma City Utilities crews can access a sewer main for repair. The main runs under a small inlet on the north side of the river across from the OKANA Resort.
Crews discovered an issue with the main over the weekend during a routine inspection. Because the main sits runs deeper than the inlet basin, staff are confident that no untreated wastewater entered the inlet or river.
Due to the main's location, lowered water levels are required for crews to access it for repair. Contractor crews have been called in due to the complexity of the work. A timeline is not yet established.
City officials are working closely with Oklahoma Boathouse Foundation staff to ensure repairs are completed and the river is refilled before upcoming national events scheduled within the next few weeks.
