OKC improves parks in partnership with Origins Green the Planet™

Published on March 22, 2021

To support the reforestation of parks, the Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with global nonprofit One Tree Planted and active natural skincare brand/sustainability leader Origins to plant 70 trees in two City parks.

The trees will be planted in Highley Park, 1948 NW 8th St., between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 26 and Oliver Park, 3201 S Broadway Lane, between 10 a.m.–2 p.m. April 9.

Volunteers are needed to help plant the trees. Safety items, gloves and shovels will be provided. Volunteers should come dressed for the occasion and wear closed-toe shoes.

“This project is a meaningful step forward to ensuring all communities have equal and equitable access to the benefits of trees - from reducing urban heat to mitigating the effects of climate change to protecting the water we drink and air we breathe,” said Tanner Haid, Urban Forestry Specialist at One Tree Planted. “We are proud of this partnership and look forward to supporting more opportunities to plant trees and build community in Oklahoma City.”

This Earth Month, Origins Green the Planet Fund™ provided a grant to support 15 urban forestry and environmental justice projects in communities across the U.S.

“At Origins, we’re deepening our commitment to reforestation through expanded partnerships with non-profit organizations that align with our Green the PlanetTM mission,” said Ada Lien, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Origins. “Our planting efforts continue to help combat climate change and support local communities around the world. Origins is proud to help impact meaningful change for both people and our planet.”

The OKC  Parks & Recreation Department maintains over 170 parks and almost 100 miles of trails. Since the early 1600s, parks have been a common place for people to experience nature and recreation away from the rapid pace of their daily life.
