OKC Parks to cut ribbon at revamped sports complex

Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation and Ward 7 Councilman Camal Pennington will cut the ribbon at Edwards Park Football Complex this month after an overhaul of the facility. The public ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Edwards Park, 1515 N. Bryant Ave.

The $4.5 million project included four new irrigated, lighted football fields. The complex previously only had three fields. A maintenance building will also be built soon.

"We're so excited to see these fields busy already," OKC Parks Director Melinda McMillan-Miller said. "We're proud to partner with athletic groups that give the kids in our community a place to learn and grow. Now they have a beautiful, refreshed place to play."

League games and practices have already begun at the location. The fields are predominantly used for flag and tackle football, but a variety of sports are played at Edwards, including soccer and ultimate frisbee.

The project was funded by Park Impact Fees and Capital Improvement Project funds. The complex was designed by Oklahoma City Parks Planning staff, and the contractor was Rudy Construction.
