OKC Animal Welfare: choose your dog adoption fees as we near capacity
Published on June 25, 2026
OKC Animal Welfare is allowing adopters to choose their own dog adoption fee from June 25-27 as the Shelter responds to a growing number of medium- and large-sized dogs being brought into its care.
The Shelter, located at 2811 SE 29th St., is receiving dogs faster than they are being adopted, straining available kennel space. The limited-time event is intended to help connect more dogs with families and provide relief for the Shelter as intake continues to rise.
“The fastest way to help a shelter pet find a home is to help people see them,” Superintendent of OKC Animal Welfare Johny Sandoval said. “We encourage everyone to visit the shelter, share our adoptable dogs online, and tell friends and family who may be looking for a new companion. Together, our community can help create lifesaving outcomes for the animals in our care.”
The community is encouraged to help by adopting a dog or by telling their friends and families about adoptable pets at the Shelter.
Dogs participating in the promotion can be identified by a blue kennel card. Visitors can adopt from noon to 5 p.m. each day of the promotion by bringing a valid photo ID and choosing the adoption fee they would like to pay.
Every adopted dog goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives and given a collar and tag.
