The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter is reaching capacity and needs the community's help to create space. From Sept. 2 - 5, adoption fees are waived for dogs that are fully adoptable and ready to go home.
The shelter is currently caring for 700 pets, including 373 in the shelter and 327 in foster care.
“Our team is working around the clock and reaching out to rescue and transfer partners to help more pets, but adoption remains the most direct and effective way to make an impact,” said Johny Sandoval, Animal Welfare superintendent. “Even if you cannot adopt, you can make a difference by bringing a friend to visit our pets or sharing their stories. Every person has the power to reach others, and our pets need your help now more than ever.”
The waived adoption fee applies to dogs identified by a blue kennel card, which indicates they are ready for adoption. Adopted dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed and current on age-appropriate vaccinations.
The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter, 2811 SE 29th St., is open for adoptions Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Pets in foster care are also available for adoption outside regular hours.
