"WHAT GOES WHERE" IS HERE

Figuring out what goes in your trash, recycling or bulky waste just got easier thanks to "What Goes Where," the City's new online tool launched Nov. 13 in celebration of America Recycles Day. Mayor David Holt, Councilperson James Cooper and the Oklahoma City Thunder's Rumble the Bison joined students from John Rex Elementary School during the celebration and helped to announce the new "What Goes Where" tool.

Take the guesswork out of your recycling

"What Goes Where" helps customers quickly decide where to dispose of more than 500 everyday household items - from pizza boxes and spray paint cans to mattresses and motor oil. The tool provides clear guidance on whether an item belongs in a customer's Big Blue trash cart, Big Green recycling cart, bulky waste, or should be taken to the City's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center.

How to use "What Goes Where"

Users can search the "What Goes Where" database two different ways:

  1. Click on one of five categories - Big Blue Trash Cart, Big Green Recycling Cart, Bulky Waste, Household Hazardous Waste and Not Accepted to browse each group and see what is included in each.
  2. Conduct an open search by entering the name of an item you want information about in the search bar at the top of the "What Goes Where" tool.

Most items are searchable by key word and many words will bring up multiple results to better guide customers as they go.

Don't see what you're looking for?

Use the "Let Us Know" form link located just above the search bar and we'll add that item to our database. We intend to grow "What Goes Where" based on our customers' needs.

Doing More to Achieve Better Results

"What Goes Where" is just one of many tools we are using to make the OKC recycling process easier and to help keep customers informed. We've also begun a more robust social media campaign and in a few months will begin running videos to not only educate customers on how to recycle right, but encourage residents who are hesitant about recycling to recycle more.

If you see our content out and about or online, we encourage you to interact with it and share it with your friends and family.
