Emergency 48-inch water line repair continues, May Ave. remains closed

Published on July 10, 2025

All four lanes of May Avenue between Northwest 69th Street and Northwest 72nd Street will continue to be shut down while Oklahoma City Utilities crews make an emergency repair to a 48-inch cast iron water main that burst yesterday morning. Drivers are advised to find alternative routes if needing to access businesses or residences in this area.

At this time, a large portion of customers in north OKC can expect lower-than-normal water pressure until the repair is complete. Some customers may also experience temporary service disruptions while the repair is underway.

“Utilities employees and contractors have been working nonstop for more than 24 hours to tackle this complex repair,” said Assistant Utilities Director Josh Morgan. “We’re incredibly proud of their dedication and determination to get the job done safely and efficiently, while doing everything possible to minimize the impact on our customers.”

Due to several factors, including the size of the main and the material type, Utilities officials currently do not have an estimated repair time.

Once the water main has been repaired, May Avenue will require road repairs due to damage caused by the main break. The Public Works Department will handle road repairs, including performing a damage assessment. Officials anticipate having the road partially reopened to two-way traffic by Monday, July 14, pending unforeseen challenges.
