Oklahoma City Animal Welfare’s effort to place 175 dogs into homes this week is gaining momentum thanks to a generous donation from a local resident who wishes to remain anonymous. The support comes as the Shelter works to alleviate overcrowding and create space for incoming animals.

As part of the effort, adoption fees for dogs 6 months and older are waived through Saturday, June 14. Due to the anonymous donation, fees for 55 puppies have been fully sponsored and are available for adoption at no cost through Saturday, June 14.

“This donation shows the willingness of the people to help homeless animals,” said Crystal Slocum, administrative specialist at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare. “It encourages others to get involved in helping animals in more ways than one. You may not be able to adopt right now or even donate money, but there are so many ways to help. Even just a blanket to keep a kennel warm is greatly appreciated and makes a difference”.

All adopted dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and sent home with a collar and ID tag. Adopters can use the savings to purchase supplies for their new pet.

Community members can also help by fostering, promoting adoptable pets, or spreading awareness. Rescue groups and transfer partners are encouraged to consider placement opportunities.

Residents who encounter stray animals should contact Animal Welfare dispatch at (405) 297-2255 instead of handling animals directly. Trained officers are equipped to respond safely.

The Shelter is located at 2811 SE 29th St. and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with adoptions beginning at noon.
