Artist Bio
Muse is a self-taught artist and owner of Museart Tattoo Co. in Oklahoma City. Through his career in the tattoo industry, he was introduced to oil painting. His work focuses on the search for meaning and identity within history and art. As a painter, Muse aims to connect the dots of African and world history. He researches daily and finds the portions of African history, distorted or untold in art, and tells those stories on canvas. Muse’s style of art, classical in approach yet contemporary at second glance, provides opportunity for educational and historical dialogue.

Title: Buck Franklin

Description: Buck Franklin 24x36- 2022. Oil on canvas. (1879-1960) Buck Colbert Franklin was not only a survivor in Tulsa but a Lawyer and is considered a Black national hero for his defense of Tulsa Race massacre victims unable to see a lawful resolution for their looted, burned and demolished livelihoods. By correctly stating the fact that the damage to property was the result of a massacre, not a "riot" Franklin sued the city of Tulsa and won. Some business owners received compensation and were able to rebuild, some others were not as fortunate. Along with being an attorney, Franklin was also the journalist for the Tulsa Star, a black owned newspaper in Greenwood, a rancher, writer and postmaster. Franklin wrote his own Autobiography "My life and an Era" which was published by his son John Hope Franklin, civil rights advocate, after his death on September 24th, 1960.
