Artist Bio

Liz Roth creates landscape works in oil, screen print, relief print and installation to investigate social, environmental, optical and phenomenological concerns. She has been juried or curated into over 100 exhibitions.

She has participated in a dozen solo exhibitions, including Understanding Place at both Mainsite Contemporary in Norman, Oklahoma and at the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art (2022),  Energy Landscapes, at Xiaoxiang International Printmaking Center, Changsha Normal University, China (2016) and Chasm at the Hardesty Art Center in Tulsa (2014). She has been included in group exhibitions at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, Washington, the Museum of Northern Arizona, and at the Oklahoma Contemporary, Oklahoma City.

She has received numerous prestigious awards, such as the Fulbright Scholar award in Guangzhou China in 2019, the Wisconsin Arts Board Individual Artist Fellowship, the national Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation grant for painting, and the Oklahoma Visual Artist’s Coalition Grant 365.

Her works have been acquired by many national and international collections, including the Walker Art Center, the Museu del Joguet in Spain, the Museum of Awa Japanese Paper, and the KAIR Contemporary Art Collection.

Roth has been an artist in residence at the Xiaoxiang International Printmaking Center in Changsha, China), Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts (Wyoming), Ucross (Wyoming), Playa (Oregon), Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona), Wrangell Mountain Center (in Alaska), Jentel (Wyoming) (twice) , the Awagami Paper Factory (Japan), the Kamiyama (Japan) Artists in Residence program, and the Vermont Studio Center.

Roth earned her BA at Smith College and her MFA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a professor of painting and drawing at Oklahoma State University. Her work can be viewed at www.lizroth.com.
