JUURI
Artist Bio
My art is inspired by traditional Japanese culture (ukiyo-e, kabuki, folklore) interpreted through the medium of contemporary street art. Ancient folktales told through faces layered with florals carry both the excitement of new discovery, and the comforting familiarity of my original home. I draw on these immutable themes as a source of quiet strength despite working in a world that often rejects tradition in favor of trends.
I hope that my work is an oasis of quiet in turbulent times, and that it sparks a resurgence of love for traditional culture among the new generation, both in Japan and overseas.
