Artist Statement

Gregg Standridge is a local Norman Artist, musician, and registered Choctaw Nation Artist. He is also Cherokee, a seasoned songwriter and composer, teacher of guitar and performer. He has worked with art, music and words all of his life.

“As far back as I remember I have always been surrounded by music, wood and art. In my father’s shop I sorted, sanded and swept wood. I breathed in the essence of exploration and creativity and more than a few shop cuss words! I have become all of these things. The marquetry hand-cut pieces I am creating use 1/42 inch wood veneer arranged in stained-glass type puzzles to create a feeling of movement through wood grain. Each of these artistic work has a different rotating color scheme. If I use 12 colors then I will create 12 actual images with 12 color variations. I do NOT use lasers or CNC machines. Each piece is cut with a scroll saw and x-acto knife. My works are mounted on hard wood panels, hand framed and finished in oil based polyurethane. I am currently working with themes of nature, native animals, social justice, Native American and fantasy themes.
