As the federal government shutdown continues and the funding for SNAP is suspended, more Oklahoma City residents face uncertainty. Although the City of Oklahoma City does not operate food pantries or provide direct financial assistance, we have compiled a list of resources available to those in need.
G. Patrick Riley is a National Recognized Oklahoma Artist. He attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman and graduated with a Bachelors degree of Fine Arts in 1964. He completed a Masters Degree in Arts Education in 1971 from the same University. He taught visual art in Oklahoma City Public Schools and has worked as an artist/sculptor in Oklahoma for several years. He is a member of the Oklahoma State Arts Council’s Teaching Artist Program. During the decade of the 70’ he was named to Who’s Who in American art, he exhibited his art in New York City, and he designed the costumes and set for the Fire Bird Ballet with Oklahoma City Ballet Company. In the 1980’s he was named by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a Kennedy Center Artist/Teacher Fellow and was hosted as guest artist of the Kennedy Center in Washington D. C.. Southwestern Oklahoma State University named him as the Chairman of the University’s Visual Art Program in 1991 and in 1994 he became the Arts Administrator for the Oklahoma City Public Schools. He continued to work as an artist while administrating art programs. In 2006 he retired from active public service in the arts and began developing his company Patrick’s Arts of Oklahoma. His company has designed and built many Public Art Sculptures. These sculptures include the “Eagle,” located in the Judicial Center Building in Oklahoma City and the “Trinity Eagle” located at the Mabee Gerrer Museum in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His company also completed the Freedom Eagle located in the town of Colony. Oklahoma. He enjoys building large works of art made of a variety of materials including wood , steel and concrete.
Title: Freedom Eagle Category: Visual Arts Genre: Sculpture Description: Freedom Eagle is a fourteen foot mild steal sculpture of an abstracted eagle. It's in three different sections with each sections contributing to the whole. The steel is cut, shaped, braced, welded, and bolted together so that the eagle wings are the dominant feature of the sculpture. It's patina is a rust iron red. It's located in the town square of the community of Colony Oklahoma.
Title: Trinity Eagle Category: Visual Arts Genre: Sculpture Description: The Trinity Eagle is designed as the welcome sculpture for the Mabee Gerrer Museum in Shawnee Oklahoma. It is a ten and a half foot polished stainless steel sculpture representing an abstracted eagle. The three feathers on the top of the eagles head of the sculpture are symbolic of the Christian trinity. The eagles wings and a stainless steel farm auger are emphasized in the design of the sculpture.
Title: Eagle Category: Visual Arts Genre: Sculpture Description: Eagle is a twenty eight foot stainless steel mask sculpture designed and constructed for a forty foot wall with a skylight ceiling. This piece is displayed at Judicial Center Building, a part of the State Capital Building complex in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. It's designed in five stainless steel parts, and is arranged on the wall to represent the distorted likeness of an eagle.
