Artist Bio

While we primarily work with fused and cast glass we love working with many materials. We also include welding, woodworking and acrylic fabrication among our skill sets. The range of materials we can work with allows for us to create both interior and exterior pieces, both large and small.

We are both drawn to mixing materials that highly contrast each other, like glass and concrete, or acrylic and rusted steel. This dichotomy of materials leads one to examine each more closely - the natural blend of colors in rust, the complexity of reflections off a polished surface and the strong contrast of organic next to industrial. In particular we love to include an element of transparency so that lighting, natural or otherwise, also becomes an important part of the sculpture. The transparency also adds depth as the layers of construction are revealed and the landscape on the other side becomes a part of the design.

Title: Decodent Chandeliers
Category: Visual Arts
Genre: Mixed Media
Description: The Civic Center 1% For Art call to artists was for two sculptural chandeliers that reflected the art deco style of the building.  They wanted them right at the entrance where they would "wow" people as they walked in the building. We researched, designed and built these from scratch. We are primarily fused glass artists so we cut and shaped the glass as well. We think they make a great addition to an already fantastic building.

Title: Butterflies!
Category: Visual Arts
Genre: Mixed Media
Description: This public art request was for a butterfly sculpture in a neighborhood park. We thought we could do better then that so we made 10 butterflies with four foot wing spans and spread them out to cover more area. We put them on tall poles so it is easy to look up and see the sunlight glowing through the colorful (and unbreakable) acrylic patterns. We modelled them after specific butterfly species and put an identifying plate on the pole so you can learn a little about them as you wander through them.

Title: Zephyr
Category: Visual Arts
Genre: Mixed Media
Description: This is a sculpture in Metro Park neighborhood. Our design was influenced by the history of the location which used to be a car manufacturing and industrial area in the '20s and '30s. Our piece has elements of art deco and of the ornate hood ornaments of the time. We deliberately left it a little raw looking with exposed bolts and rusting steel as a nod to the industrial fabricating the location was once home to.
