Community meeting planned for upcoming F.D. Moon Middle School renovations

Post Date:01/17/2020 2:54 PM

Review final plans for upcoming renovations at F.D. Moon Middle School at a community meeting 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 in the school’s cafeteria, 1901 NE 13th Street.

Parents, teachers, students and other neighbors can review the plans and discuss them with staff. The $4.5 million MAPS for Kids project includes a new elevator, restroom renovations and a fire sprinkler system for the school, which currently serves students in fifth through eighth grade.

Established in 1962, the school is named after local educator Frederick Douglass Moon. In 1940, Moon moved to Oklahoma City and became principal at Frederick A. Douglass High School for the next 21 years. Moon was widely considered the “dean” of education in the local black community, elected to the Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education in 1972. He served as its first black president in 1974.

Please call (405) 297-2578 at least 48 hours before the meeting if you need a sign language interpreter, language interpreter or disability assistance.

The City’s MAPS Office and Design Architects Plus are coordinating the meeting. Call (405) 297-3461 for details.
