Part of West River Trail closed indefinitely until erosion damage repairs are complete

Post Date:07/30/2019 2:10 PM

Part of the West River Trail is closed indefinitely in west Oklahoma City until erosion damage from the heavy spring rain is repaired.

The trail is closed from its western-most point (the Reno Avenue trailhead) to Safari Point at Crystal Lake (near SW 8th Street and Rockwell Avenue). It’s about 3.3 miles of the 7.5-mile trail. Click here for a map of the closure.

High water in the North Canadian River this spring caused extensive erosion damage along the trail. The closure will be clearly marked with signs and barricades.

There’s no timeline yet for when the trail will be fully re-opened. Assessment is ongoing, and a repair plan isn’t complete. Visit okc.gov/parks for updates.

OKC Parks manages the City’s trail system. Visit okc.gov/parks for more about our parks and recreation amenities.
