Parts of West River Trail blocked again in Oklahoma City due to high water in North Canadian River

Post Date:06/06/2019 2:15 PM

Parts of the West River Trail are blocked in west Oklahoma City while crews assess and repair erosion damage along the North Canadian River’s banks.

The river is at a high water level after heavy rain, and erosion along the banks has damaged or threatened to damage parts of the trail. It’s the second time this spring with high water issues at the same locations.

Crews have marked closed sections of the trail with orange fencing and cones. The closed locations are near:

  • The Meridian Avenue trailhead on the trail’s east end.
  • Crystal Lake on the north- and southbound sides of SW 15th Street.
  • The Reno Avenue access location west of Council Road
  • The southbound trailhead at NW 10th Street.

Damage assessment and repairs are under way and will be completed as soon as possible. There’s no timeline yet for when the trail will be fully re-opened.
