June 6 workshop postponed for Oklahoma City homeowners, tenants and landlords on assistance, legal issues

Post Date:06/06/2019 1:40 PM

The second part of the housing and legal workshop series hosted by the City of Oklahoma City’s Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI) and the Neighborhood Alliance of Central Oklahoma has been postponed because of heavy rain and flooding.

Before the postponement, Part 2 of the two-part series had been scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 6 at the Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Center, 3400 NW 36th Street.

The new date will be announced as soon as possible.

About the workshop

The workshop will focus on down-payment assistance, predatory lending and leases, purchase contracts, new construction of affordable homes, home repairs and rehabilitation, and programs offered by nonprofit partners. Click here to register.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to meet our nonprofit legal partners, get questions answered and see if you’re eligible to receive legal assistance, all at no cost to you,” said Shannon Entz, SNI’s Program Planner.

Part 1 was in April and focused on similar issues.

The workshop can help residents learn about more tools to stabilize their neighborhoods. SNI has worked in targeted neighborhoods across Oklahoma City, helping to increase opportunities for homeownership and ensure safe and affordable housing for renters.

The effort coincides with the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department’s Fair Housing Month in April. Local partners include Metro Fair Housing, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City University School of Law.
