Get free mulch through Feb. 3 in Oklahoma City
Get free mulch from the Parks and Recreation Department made from recycled Christmas trees.
From dawn until dusk through Feb. 3 while supplies last, piles of mulch will be available for free pickup in four Oklahoma City parks:
- Will Rogers Park, 3600 Pat Murphy Drive
- Wheeler Park, 1120 S Western Ave.
- Dolphin Wharton Park, 301 NE 63rd Street
- Woodson Park, 3028 SW 36th Street
Bring your own equipment and bags for taking the mulch.
The recycled trees were part of a program in December and early January. The Parks Department invited people to drop off Christmas trees for recycling, and made free mulch available while the trees were being dropped off. The rest of the mulch made from recycled trees is now available.
Recycling Christmas trees keeps them out of our landfills and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. It will help the City reach its goals of increasing our recycling rate, while also benefiting our ecosystem and improving the air, water and soil.
Using mulch in urban environments like gardens promotes plant growth and water conservation by adding nutrients to the soil and helping to retain moisture.
