Construction begins on MAPS 3’s Lake Draper Trail

Post Date:03/07/2018 1:15 PM

Mayor Mick Cornett and other civic leaders broke ground Wednesday on the Lake Draper Trail, the third of three MAPS 3 Trails.

The 13-mile trail will circle Lake Stanley Draper in southeast Oklahoma City. The $12.6 million trail is expected to be completed this fall.

“Last week we opened the Will Rogers Trail, and this week break ground on the Lake Draper Trail. It’s really thrilling to see work continue on our extensive trail system, which connects neighborhoods and provides an opportunity for everyone to get out, get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors,” said Mayor Cornett. “It’s a substantial investment in the quality of life in southeast Oklahoma City and I look forward to being in attendance when we celebrate the opening of the trail.”

Mayor Cornett was joined by Ward 4 Councilman Todd Stone, MAPS 3 Citizens Advisory Board Chairman Tom McDaniel and others civic leaders as they broke ground on the trail in a ceremony near the Lake Draper Marina.

The ADA-compliant, multi-use trail is designed for two-way bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

The project engineers are Cabbiness Engineering, Triad Design Group and C-P Integrated Services. CED and Haskell Lemon are the contractors.

The 7.5-mile West River Trail was finished in 2015 and was the first of the three MAPS 3 Trails to be completed. The second, the 8.1-mile Will Rogers Trail, opened Monday.

The trails are part of the Oklahoma City trails system.
