Employee, firefighter and police officer of the year honored at Council meeting
The City Council and South Oklahoma City Kiwanis Club honored a police officer, firefighter and City Council Office employee as employees of the year for their outstanding performance and dedication in 2017.
Debi Martin, the Chief of Staff to the Council, was honored as employee of the year. She’s been with the City for 45 years and builds bridges between residents City staff. She has been a longtime advocate for improving the lives of children and has been an indispensable member of the City staff for her entire career.
Cpl. Caleb Timmons was honored as firefighter of the year. Timmons was honored for saving a mother and her 5-year-old child at an apartment fire in October. Timmons, who has been with the City for six years, climbed a ladder to a third-floor balcony to carry down the child and help the mother escape the fire.
Capt. Jason Bussert, a City employee for 22 years, was honored as the police officer of the year. Bussert oversees the Police Department’s data systems unit, consistently demonstrating tenacious initiative and invaluable leadership. He’s been instrumental to projects like the body-worn camera program, data sharing with other metro police departments and digital evidence management.
The Council and Kiwanis Club honor the employee, firefighter and police officer of the year at the first Council meeting of each year.
