Open house set for future MAPS 3 Interstate 44 West Trail

Post Date:01/09/2014

The public is invited to attend an open house to get information and provide feedback on an eight-mile MAPS 3 trail planned along the I-44 corridor from Lake Hefner to the Oklahoma River.

The open house is come-and-go and takes place from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15 at Will Rogers Garden Exhibition Center in Will Rogers Park, 3400 NW 36th Street. The project team from MacArthur Associated Consultants will make a short presentation at 6 p.m.

The project team will review and discuss a variety of route alternatives for the trail at the open house. Aerial maps of the trail alternatives can be viewed at

“The City is in the early stages of the planning process for this trail,” MAPS 3 Program Manager David Todd said.  “Many factors, including citizen input, need to be considered before choosing a final route.”

Once built, the I-44 West Trail will open up recreation and commuting opportunities for cyclists, runners, walkers and inline skaters from NW Oklahoma City to the Oklahoma River.

“We are excited about the urban trail and expect it will be widely used, particularly by commuters who want to bike to work downtown,” Todd added.

The I-44 West Trail was recommended in the Oklahoma City Trails Master Plan. Funding for the $13.8 million trail project comes from MAPS 3.
