Permits required for garage sales Each household in Oklahoma City is allowed to have two garage sales per year with proper permits. Garage sale permits are $7 and are available through the License Division, 420 W. Main St from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can download a permit application from our website at www.okc.gov. You can get a permit number over the phone to post at your sale by calling the License Division at 297-2606. You can only receive your permit number over the phone if your utility bill is in good standing. The charge will then be added onto your utility bill. You can also receive a permit by mail if you request an application at least two weeks before your sale. We’ll mail you an application to fill out, and you can return it with a check or money order for $7. Garage sale signs and other service signs are not allowed on utility poles, traffic sign poles, medians or any public right of way. You are allowed one sign at the sale location and two directional signs. Motor vehicles, new merchandise, consignment items or items purchased for resale are not allowed to be sold at a garage sale. You may only sell items acquired for your individual use that you no longer need. A single permit is good for three consecutive days. The sale must be held at the address listed on the permit between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The maximum fine for conducting a sale without a license is $200 plus costs. To report an illegal garage sale, call the Action Center at 297-2535.
