City ordianance requires exterior maintenance City ordinance 24-101 requires the exterior of a structure, including fences, to be maintained in good repair, in sound condition and sanitary so as to not cause a health hazard or nuisance to others. Raw materials like wood need to be painted, roof shingles should be in good condition, windows need to be maintained and fences must be upright and secured. This ordinance is designed not only to maintain aesthetics but also to maintain security of the residence. Violations of the property maintenance ordinance include holes in roofs, rotting wood, chipping paint, broken windows, falling fences, etc. If you wish to report a violation, please call the Action Center at 297-2535. Please provide the address of property as well as a detailed description of the structure (i.e. needs to painted, shingles missing, etc.). An inspector will visit the property to determine if it is in violation of the ordinance. If it is in violation, notice will be given to the property owner through the mail and on the property itself. The property owner will then have 30 days to fix the problem(s). If they are in process at the end of 30 days, an extension can be awarded. If you receive a notice from the Neighborhood Services Department about exterior property maintenance, please call the inspector listed on the notice to find out what needs to be done to fix the problem. If the nuisance is not abated within 30 days, the inspector will visit the property. If there has been no progress on repairs or contact with the inspector, a citation will be issued. From that point on, the Municipal Court System will handle the case.
