Report dilapidated houses to the Action Center Dilapidated structures are structures that have sustained such damage as to pose a real hazard for neighborhoods. Dilapidated structures can include structures with foundation damages, collapsing roofs, major structural damage and/or decay. Please report dilapidated structures to the Action Center at 297-2535. Please provide the address of the structure and a detailed description of the condition of the structure. An inspector will visit the property to determine if it is in a dilapidated condition. If the property is found in violation, the inspector will notify all mortgage holders and owners of the property. A date is set for a City Council hearing, and a notice is left on the property 10 days prior to the hearing date. A notice is also sent in the mail to all parties with an interest in the violation. If the violation is not taken care of before the Council date, the Council will declare the building in violation. The owners then have 30 days to take care of the violation. If the nuisance is not abated by that 30-day period after Council and there has been no interest on the part of the property owners to bring the building into safe condition, a contract can be awarded for demolition and the structure can be torn down at the cost of the property owner.
