Frequently Asked Questions

Utility Service Center

Q. WHEN WILL A DEPOSIT BE REFUNDED?
A. Deposits are refunded after the customer has paid bills for 12 consecutive months in a timely manner, or when you close your account.

Q. IF I AM UNABLE TO PAY MY BILL BY THE DUE DATE, IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET A PAYMENT ARRANGEMENT?
A. Payment arrangements are not granted on deposits or initial bills. However, we are happy to provide assistance to our customers who are having temporary financial difficulties. Request for payment arrangements are considered on an individual basis

Q. HOW ARE WASTEWATER CHARGES CALCULATED IF THERE IS NOT A METER ON MY SEWER LINE?
A. Wastewater charges are calculated based on the amount of water that you use.

Q. HOW MANY DAYS IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO CALL TO HAVE SERVICE TURNED ON/OFF?
A. Two Business Days

Q. WHERE IS MY WATER METER?
A. Generally, for residential properties, the water meter is located at the front of a property, in the ground, near the curb. It is covered with a round lid about one to two feet in size. If the property is on a corner, the meter could be located near the curb on the side street.

Q. WHY DO I STILL HAVE TO PAY A MONTHLY FEE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN OUT OF TOWN AND NOT USING ANY WATER?
A. Base account fees are necessary to recover the ongoing expenses required to keep service available at the property. Even though there is no water usage while you are out of town, the Department must operate and maintain the water and wastewater treatment plants, read the meters and mail the bills, etc. These costs continue to be incurred regardless of actual water consumption and are allocated to all of Water Utilities customers.

Q. WHAT IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE CHARGE FOR?
A. The customer service charge recovers all administrative cost associated with an ongoing billing and collections system.

Q. HOW WILL I BE BILLED?
A. Utility bills are issued monthly. Water and sewer charges are based on water consumption. Trash collection is based on the number of carts you have. Water meters must be accessible to meter readers. Meters that cannot be read are estimated. Each account is on a specific billing cycle, determined by where you live. Payment is due 15 days after the bill date.

Q. WHAT IF I HAVE A SWIMMING POOL, WILL I HAVE TO PAY FOR FILLING MY POOL?
A. Winter water usage is set in the wastewater bill calculation to avoid charging for usual heavier summer uses such as watering your lawn and garden, washing your car or filling your swimming pool. If you do not fill your swimming pool during the winter months, it will not affect your water usage information for your wastewater bill.

Q. WHAT IF I JUST MOVED INTO A NEW HOUSE, HOW IS MY “WINTER PERIOD AVERAGE” DETERMINED?
A. New customer’s moving from outside the Oklahoma City area will be assigned a default value user charge that is equal to the average winter water use for all residential customers. The current Winter Period Average used for new residential customers is 7,000 gallons.

Q. WHAT IF I HAVE PROBLEMS PAYING MY BILL?
A. We have a program to help financially needy customers pay their water bills. If you are interested in receiving assistance through the H2O program, contact the Salvation Army at 405 270-7800 for program eligibility requirements. If you want to contribute to H2O, just check the contribution box on your monthly statement and send it along with your payment.
