Occasionally a proposed structure is so large or the design so complex, the City doesn’t have the equipment, expertise or time to conduct all the needed structural inspections. Typical examples of this are off-site pre-fabricated structural components; specialized connections such as welds and high strength bolts; complex erection specifications; soil, concrete and masonry testing specifications and anything else that requires special expertise or equipment.

These special situations require state-licensed architects, structural engineers or outside testing agencies to submit reports of these inspections to the Chief Building Inspector. Plan Review staff can answer questions about the need for special inspections.
