THE FIRST TEE OF METROPOLITAN OKLAHOMA CITY

Golf is more than a game.  As of June, 2004 THE FIRST TEE has introduced golf and it's core values to 300,000 young people.  Our mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.  Ages 7-17 can participate.

From respect and integrity to individual responsibility and good sportsmanship, confidence, courtesy, honesty, perseverance and good judgment...these are the nine core values that are incorporated into this program.  There are five levels of achievement.  All students enter at PAR level and with participation, they move up the ladder to Level 2-BIRDIE, Level 3-EAGLE, Level 4-DOUBLE EAGLE, Level 5-ACES.  Besides learning the rules of golf, all participants have assignments, homework, and exams.  There are college scholarship available to participants.  Oklahoma City's program officially began in 2003.  The Oklahoma City program served over 300 students in 2005.

We have a new group of interested citizens becoming a part of the Adopt A City Street Program. We have modified it a bit and we call the Program P U L L, Pick Up Lots of Litter ! Citizens participating in this program thus far are as follows:

• Billie Capps enjoys helping to beautify  her neighborhood which is around South Klein, between 29th and 36th.
• Glenn Fuqua is retired and walks every day and picks up trash around NW 22 and NW 23 and N. Walker. He also maintains a trash box at a bus stop on NW 23.
• Nell Head picks up litter on her walks with her husband around 16th and MacArthur, as well as part of Purdue by their neighborhood school. Nell recycles the aluminum that they find.
• Shirley Proctor has been picking up litter around NE 16 and Martin Luther King Boulevard for several years. She calls herself the ANGELS ON EARTH trash crew. She is such a firecracker about cleaning up the area.
• Bill Steele does an incredible job of picking up litter on Grand Boulevard from S. Blackwelder to S. Pennsylvania. WOW! He is hoping to recruit his neighborhood association to adopt a street as well.
• Renee’ Werth began this program with an interest to pick up litter on her neighborhood streets on N. May and NW 29th. So she is picking up litter with the help of trash bags from the PULL Program!
• Margie & Barbara Corey picks up litter in the 1100 & 1200 Block of SW 39th street.
• Rose & Melvin Trobaugh is helping out greatly by picking up trash & litter from S Douglas & Blackwelder from SW 36th to SW 44th!
• John Larsen, part of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, picks up litter around MLK; from NE 32nd to 36th street
