The Southwest Sector includes far southwest Oklahoma City, plus an area on the west side of the City extending north almost to Wilshire Boulevard. It includes Will Rogers World Airport and the west side of Lake Overholser.

A 31-member team of area residents, businesspeople and others spent eight months developing the draft of the Southwest Sector plan.

Among the Southwest Sector issues addressed in the plan are

• Amount and location of growth expected over the next 30 years.
• Improvements for streets, schools, parks, fire and police, water and sewers, trash service and libraries.
• Making the City’s ample water supply available to residents now relying on well water.
• Protecting wooded areas along streams.
• Attracting high-quality development with landscaping, appropriate commercial signage, parks and open space and neighborhood trails.
• Keeping area residents and businesses informed about proposed development.

The Plan will provide direction for development and public improvement decisions by the Planning Commission, City Council and developers. Capital improvements priorities are decided in the Capital Improvements Program and City Budget.
