A strong neighborhood is only possible when its residents are engaged, its schools are producing well-prepared students and its businesses are thriving. The City of Oklahoma City’s Strong Neighborhoods Initiative works to build vibrant neighborhoods by:
The City empowers neighborhood action through a long-standing partnership with the Neighborhood Alliance of Central Oklahoma. Neighborhood Alliance provides organizing assistance, leadership training and technical assistance to neighborhood associations across the city.
The City also provides funding for neighborhood revitalization efforts. Between 2003 and 2011, the City has provided over $1.2 million of community development funding to neighborhood improvement projects. Over 65 neighborhoods have completed 104 projects, ranging from park improvements to crime prevention campaigns.
The City is also developing a new targeted neighborhood revitalization initiative with the goal of tipping struggling neighborhoods back to self-sufficiency through concentrated investments. This portion of the program will be unveiled in the future.
