Medical Community
Planning

The Medical Community neighborhood is north and east of Downtown, between the Oklahoma Health Center on the south side and the State Capitol complex on the north side.

It extends from NE 23 to NE 13, and from Culbertson and Phillips to Lottie Avenue.

It was developed in the late 1920s and early 1930s after the Capitol was built, and during the oil boom that began in 1928. Most of its buildings are from that era.

Demographically, the neighborhood is predominantly black, and has twice the percentage of residents over 65 as does the City as a whole.

The outline below lists key planning actions for achieving the Medical Community Vision and indicates the groups with primary responsibility for carrying out these actions.

For more information on the Medical Community's issues and goals, download the full plan. (Adobe Acrobat file, 2.8 MB) or view the Planning Department's presentation to City Council on July 1, 2003. The presentation will open in a new window.
