The Oklahoma City Arts Commission was created to advise City Council on works of art to be placed on City property.

The Oklahoma City Arts Commission announces a call for artists for a juried outdoor sculpture competition and exhibition. Up to eight selected artists will have the opportunity to have completed works installed and exhibited on public property in the Oklahoma City metro area for a period of one year.

The Commission also promotes and encourages programs to further arts and culture in the City and serves as a general source of advice and knowledge about arts in the City.

The Commission consists of 15 members appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council.

Five members serve at large. The Arts Council of Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitor's Commission and the Allied Arts Foundation are each represented by one member. Three members are professional artists, performers and/or architects. Four members represent other arts and cultural organizations.

The Commission meets on the third Monday of every month, usually at the Will Rogers Park Garden Exhibition Center.

Arts Commission launches OKC Artscape project

Five new sculptures have been installed outside of City Hall at 200 North Walker Avenue.

The sculptures were selected by the City's Arts Commission as part of their inaugural OKC Artscape project. The goal of Artscape is to encourage cultural participation through the installation of art in public spaces. The five sculptures will be on display through September, 2008.
